The Prime Minister, Helen Clark, visits Western Springs College

October 13 2006

The Prime Minister, Helen Clark, visited the school yesterday. She was treated to a rousing welcome by the students in the Rumaki. They were in fine form, and in good heart, ahead of the Te Ahurea competitions on Saturday 14 October.

The prime minister spoke to senior students, encouraging them to have a ‘future plan’ and to follow their passions. She reflected that her parents had wondered where the combination of subjects that she studied at university: German, English, Political Studies, Psychology could possibly lead her!

Students asked questions ranging from “Did she envisage NZ engaged in military action against Iran?’, ‘Could NZ with its small population take more refugees?’ to, ‘How did she cope with stress?'.

We, students and staff, appreciated her interest in the school.
