|WSC Stage Challenge Success!
On Thursday 4th July WSC took a crew of 90 students to the Aotea Centre to participate in ASB Stage Challenge 2013. The day was a lot of fun for all involved and was full of preparation and planning, meetings and rehearsals to fine-tune all aspects of the WSC performance. A strong leadership team and crew have worked tirelessly since the beginning of the year to make sure that everything is meticulously planned from dance through to costumes and set. On the night, the strength of our performance was in the captivating story told through dance and drama
As a school we are very proud to announce that WSC came away with two Stage Challenge Awards for Excellence in Drama and Choreography.
Stage Challenge is a wonderful leadership opportunity for students to initiate and produce a production for students across all years. We praise the work of the student leaders this year as their efforts have truly been outstanding.
Stage Challenge Leader Sophie McIntosh has done a wonderful job leading her committee, the 70 dancers and 20 support crew. In the recent newsletter Sophie wrote, “For Western Springs College the Stage Challenge 2013 theme is “the importance of hope”. We have followed the classic Greek myth storyline of ‘Pandora’s Box’ and combined it with modern dance, music and set designs to bring the story alive. Pandora, the first women created by Zeus, was told never to open Epimetheus’ magnificent box. When she did, all that is evil immediately escaped and spread across the world. Pandora had cursed mankind to an eternity of suffering... but then one last thing came out of the box; Hope. No matter how dire the circumstances, there is always HOPE.
Our dancers have been practising non-stop throughout the past two terms so that we can be our very best on Thursday July 4th at the Aotea Centre! Not to mention the immense work going on behind the scenes to bring together all the set, costumes, makeup, lighting and music!”
We are very proud of all involved in Stage Challenge 2013 with dance, planning and with work behind the scenes. Thank you staff and students for helping to make Stage Challenge 2013 a great success.
