Western Springs College Commended for Encouraging Student Access to National Qualifications (NCEA) Courses

The current (July, 2015) Fairfax Media School Report News invitation ( www.stuff.co.nz ) to school communities to check whether or not their local school is manipulating NCEA results has been noted. It has been reported that a number of schools are distorting results by denying weaker students entry to qualification courses and by publishing only participation- or entry-based data in isolation from roll-based data.

The recent (March, 2015) NZQA Managing National Assessment audit of Western Springs College highlighted the small gap between WSC’s participation-based and roll-based results.

A check reveals that the average difference for WSC across the eleven years 2004-2014 is as follows:
Level 1: 3% (NZ: 11%)
Level 2: 5% (NZ: 11%)
Level 3: 5% (NZ: 19%)
The national averages as reported by Fairfax Media are shown in brackets.
