40 Hour Famine

This year the 40 Hour Famine is raising money for refugee children from South Sudan. Conflict, famine and drought have led thousands of South Sudanese children to flee their homes, many without their parents. Money raised will help ensure these kids have access to nutritious food, clean water, safe toilets, a place to live, and education and play in child friendly spaces.

Famine weekend is from the 8th June to the 10th June. Sign ups have already began, but it still isn’t too late to sign up. To participate, you need to give up something for 40 hours and get people to sponsor you. You can give up food, Facebook, your bed, or anything else that’s a sacrifice. For anyone who wants to sign up, feel free to email one of the four 40 Hour Famine leaders, who are: Tobias Keddy, Lily Mathews, Helena Copsey and Khushee Jain.

To raise funds for the Famine as a school, the 40 Hour Famine Team have organised some events. We will have a Bake Sale in Week 4 on the 23rd of the May. All the money raised from this Bake Sale will be contributed to the Famine. We will also host a Minion Auction in Week 5 on Tuesday 29th of May. This is where Year 13s will be auctioned off to the rest of the students in the school hall at lunch. The auctioned Year 13 will be your ‘minion’, for Thursday 31st of May. Again all the money raised from this event will be going towards the Famine. Year 13s who are keen to make a difference to refugee children by being a minion can sign up via a link on the Year 13 Google Classroom page.
