Year 13s wanted for PALs (Peer Assisted Learning Tutors)
We are looking for volunteers from Year 13 students to join our Peer Assisted Learning Programme. If you are keen to get training and experience as a peer tutor, this is a great opportunity to both learn and contribute. It will also look great on your CV and Tertiary applications.
What it involves is 3 training sessions in term 1.Then in terms 2 and 3 you will work one hour per week (during a study period/lunchtime/after school) to support a junior student. Most of you will be required to focus on year 9 Maths, but there will be opportunities to provide support in other subjects.

NZPMC – Maths and Physics Competition
If you are interested in participating in the NZPMC please email your name and year level to martinsh@wsc.school.nz or see Sharra Martin from the Science Department.
The New Zealand Physics and Mathematics competition will run in term 2 and involve 1 -2 60min tests. After round 1 certificates will be awarded and the top ākonga will go through to round 2. It is open to year levels 9 – 13. If you want to find out more information go to https://www.nzpmc.com/home

Astronomy School
– 19th – 24th April, in Christchurch.
– A mix of seminars and practical work.
– Visit University of Canterbury’s Mt John Observatory at Tekapo and explore our cosmic neighbourhood with modern astronomical instruments.
– University of Canterbury’s Ilam campus to learn about the universe past, present and future, the life cycles of stars, planet exploration, extraterrestrial life and more.
– Meet fellow students with the same astronomical interests and make new friends.
Applications are now open for the Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School is a six-day event for Year 13 students interested in studying Astronomy or Physics at university.
There are NO COSTS for the camp, or travel to & from Christchurch, as the camp is generously funded by a donation from a private sponsor.
Applications close: Monday, 2nd March
Eligibility: Acceptance is based on an online written application from students and NCEA Physics and Maths results

BRING IN YOUR USED PICS PB JARS
If you have any used PICS Peanut Butter Jars, DON’T THROW THEM AWAY! Please bring them to Ms Lenehan’s (Whenua HOH) Office (if anyone is unsure of where that is, then ask the office). It is preferred that the jars are sterilised, but if you can’t do that then just leave a note saying so.
This will contribute to our Cup Project!
