Western Springs College | Ngā Puna o Waiōrea Is Awarded Living Wage Accreditation

We are proud to be the first high school in Aotearoa New Zealand to be awarded the Living Wage Tick!  This means that all our directly employed and indirectly contracted employees will receive at least the Living Wage (currently $20.55 per hour).  This represents a significant increase for our lower paid staff and takes them out of the poverty gap that existed for those who were earning less before 1 January 2019.  The school’s action has the support of the unions who represent our staff.

I would also like to share with you some outcomes from the latest NCEA statistics for Western Springs College/Ngā Puna O Waiōrea.  The one I am most proud of, and which resonates with all, is that 74% of the grades we achieved in NCEA Level 1 last year were at Merit or Excellence level.  Grade quality has been a focus here, and this statistic is a real endorsement of that kaupapa.

This term, term 2, is the last we will spend in the old school with our shift into the new school planned for the term 2 holiday break.
