More success for Waiōrea at Ngā Manu Kōrero 2022

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe (congratulations) to our Ngā Puna o Waiōrea (NPoW) ākonga, Year 10 Rehutai Appleyard, representing our region Tāmaki Makaurau – Ki Te Waitematā, who achieved a 3rd-equal placing in the Sir Turi Carroll/Junior English Section of the recent 2022 Ngā Manu Kōrero competition!

Another NPoW ākonga, Year 12 Nikau Balme, also represented our region Tāmaki Makaurau – Ki Te Waitematā in the Korimako (Senior English) Section of the National Competition.

Well done to both Rehutai and Nikau for reaching the stages they did in this prestigious competition and representing NPoW and Tāmaki Makaurau – Ki Te Waitematā with pride – KA RAWE!

In its 57th year of competition, Ngā Manu Kōrero is regarded as the most significant event on the Māori education calendar for nurturing the oratory skills and providing the stage for young people to express their views and to lay down their challenges to an admiring and critical audience of peers, parents, whānau and judges.

The speech contests are intended to encourage the development of skills and confidence of Māori students in spoken English and Te Reo Māori.
