Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga is a significant Māori Performing Arts event for Auckland Secondary Schools.…
What a pleasure it has been to witness the roll call of prizewinners walking across the stage to receive recognition for their outstanding work in 2022.
From the Year 13 Leaver’s awards and special prizes, through to the Year 12, Year 11, Year 9 and 10 (combined) with over 900 people in the new gym; the Sports Awards; The Pasifika event and the Waiōrea prize-giving – our final event for 2022 on December 6th, I was struck by the confidence of our presenters, the quality of our prizewinners work and the recognition of application and progress as well as overall achievement. Well done to you all.
If I take a moment though, to highlight one statement from the range of speeches that I gave at the prize-givings it would be this one:
Don’t become preoccupied with your child’s academic ability. But instead teach them to sit with those sitting alone. Teach them to be kind. Teach them to offer their help. Teach them to be a friend to the lonely. Teach them to encourage others. Teach them to think about other people. Teach them to share. Teach them to look for the good. This is how they will change the world.
Season’s greetings to you all and best wishes for the year ahead.
