Pūhoro Māori STEMM Academy Wānanga

On Thursday June 29th, a group of Year 11 and Year 12 Ngā Puna o Waiōrea students went on an all-day Māori STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Mātauranga) Wānanga at AUT South Campus.

They met established Māori scientists and doctors. They learned practical skills, such as fixing fractured prosthetic bones, performing cardio-thoracic surgery, engineering the tallest free-standing tower and learning about the taiao.

The students have been meeting weekly at school with Pūhoro tutors to encourage and support them in STEMM pathways in college and beyond.
