Waītītīko planting 2026

Last term we spent a day tidying up and planting trees near our awa, Waītītīko. A group of students from the Rōpū Kaitiaki, all of Year 9 Waiōrea, Life Skills students, a Year 10 Social Studies class, Wastewise students and the Trapping group learnt about the effects of pollution on the awa as well as its history to our kura and the people of the area. 

Together we planted 180 native plants including Upoko tangata, Rautahi, Harakeke, Pukatea,Tītoki, Pūriri, Akeake, Kowhai, Mānuka, Kohekohe, Karo and Rewarewa, which will help to protect the Waītītīko from eroding and prevent it from being further polluted. We also had a demonstration of the trapping activity that is supporting the restoration of the awa area.  All in all, we had a very fun and productive day helping our awa!
