NCEA Derived Grade Exam Timetable

The timetable for our NCEA Derived Grade Examinations is attached. These run from Friday 11 September to Friday 18 September 2026.

Please look at the timings for your child’s subjects and remember that they need to be ready to enter the exam space 25 minutes before the scheduled start time. These exams follow the structure and conditions of the external NCEA exams students will sit in November. This means pens and other stationery items needed for the exam need to be either in your hand or a clear plastic bag. No notes of any kind are allowed in any of the exams. For digital exams, a fully charged laptop is needed.

Derived grade exams serve two purposes: they provide essential practice of the format and conditions that students need to work with in November and they also give a ‘derived grade’ (what can be awarded to a student who has an accepted reason for missing the final externals). For these two reasons, it is important that students approach these seriously and that means studying in the build up. Students can revise by revisiting the material and tasks for the externals covered on Classroom so far. Their subject teachers can provide the full picture of what they need to do.

Study leave:

Year 12 and 13 (Waiōrea and Springs): Study at home and come in for your exams

Year 11 Waiōrea: Study at home and come in for your exams

Year 11 Springs students with an exam: Timetabled classes except for their scheduled exam

No Year 11 Springs student has study leave.

In addition to full exams, some subjects that do not have external assessments are offering workshops during this period. These are marked light yellow on the timetable and have a ‘W’ rather than an ‘P’ (paper exam) or ‘D’ (digital exam) beside them. If an exam clashes with a workshop, students need to attend the exam.
