The Junior 2018 Junior Learner Council (JLC) has just had its second meeting, with the students splitting into three groups, each chaired by a year 13 Academic Leader, to discuss the way we report in the Junior School.
This year the students council is made up of: the Atea House Reps Aliana Amirmalek, Jay Patel and Carlos Toiting; the Kapura House Reps Ji Hyoung Min and Akshay Patel; the Moana House Reps Trelise Chappell and Petra Oh; the Oranga House Reps Mason Hedger, Te Huia Kouratoras and Te Kahu Whata-a-Rangi Anderton-Graham; the Whenua House Reps Maddox Brockmann and Sofia Roger Williams; the Accelerated Learner Rep Eleanor Field; the GAT Learner Rep Miranda Bull; the Learning Centre Rep Joel Atutolu; the Learning Support Rep Millie Woodley-Philips; the Māori English Medium Reps Tamai Burger and Logan Waiwiri-Taumata; and the Pasifika Rep Azure Asa.
In addition, this year we have added a Junior International Student Rep position to the Council, and that role has been taken on by Tina Hsieh. The Year 13 Academic Leaders Rangiatea Buchanan, Helena Copsey and Marco Scott, with coopted Year 11 Archie Lee-Cooper, serve as the officers of the JLC. Their duties include chairing the meetings. This year newly appointed Deputy Principal Margaret Robertson will also be working with the JLC.
Most of the students are pictured above after the Council’s first meeting, which happened to coincide with Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day. In that meeting students discussed transition between Primary and Intermediate and between Intermediate and Secondary and how both processes could be made easier. In term one the JLC represented WSC-NPoW at our Kāhui Ako launch at Orākei Marae.
