Western Springs College #1 Snowboarding Team!!!

On Monday 23rd September saw the first day of the 23rd Annual North Island Secondary Schools Snowboard Competition down
at Turoa.  There were 175 Secondary students competing from 43 schools.  We had an amazing bluebird weekend where the team
had a good couple of days to practice their jumps and runs.  Unfortunately, on Monday when the competition began the weather
started to pack in but with dense cloud coming and going and strong winds picking up they were able to complete both the Banked
Slalom and Slopestyle events.
Western Springs entered two Boy and one Girl snowboard teams with a total of 15 students participating from Year 9 through to
Year 13.  After years of Rusty Anderson nurturing the senior boys from Year 9 it all paid off with Western Springs dominating.
On Tuesday the weather deteriorated further so the event was cancelled and the Boarder X could not be run.  We had some of our
strong riders entered into this event as well and am sure if it were to go ahead we would have had more students representing the
school on the podium.
A big congratulations to the Team getting 1st Boys School and to Nico Johnson placing 1st in the Slalom, Oscar Murrell 3rd also in the
Slalom and Raffe Mahon coming 2nd in the Slopestyle.  We also managed to get 4 boys into the Top 20 Slopestyle Final which is an amazing
result.  Below is a list of  WSC placings:-
