Formclass activities to engage juniors after lockdown

Staff got right into running various formclass activities with a social engagement focus for our juniors when they returned after the very long lockdown period. The activities ranged from form teachers taking their classes for a walk around the Western Springs lake to knowing our kura tours led by our Principal and bird watching trip to Meola Reef run by Marie Hickey to drawing competitions, Touch and Christmas decoration making run by our fantastic Inclusive Learning Assistants to Listening to our library Andrew read new books in the library to Technology Bridge building and Christmas cooking making, Science Knot games, Dance games, etc. We even had Tai Chi by Ginny Reid and the first whole school “Pub-style quiz run by slick quiz masters Matthew Okey and Alistair Watt. We are grateful to the staff members for their extra effort into these activities.

End of year Junior PICNIC (with a bit of healthy inter-house competition thrown in) Day

We couldn’t possibly end THIS year off with the juniors without a small celebration. Normally it’d be our Beach Day at Long Bay but this year, like most events, we’ve had to change to adhere to COVID protocols. At noon, students competed in various competitions run by departments – Chess, Quiz, Movement games, Rubik’s cube, EPro8 challenge, Netball, Touch, Board games etc. There were also non-competitive options like Christmas bag making, recyclable container-making, Yoga on offer. With carols booking over the speaker, students enjoyed sausage sizzle and a relaxed atmosphere on our Great Lawn.  The winning house – thus the first claim to Ice blocks was: . Here’s wishing all our students and whanau a very Merry Christmas and a safe and fun-filled Summer break.
