A big CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to all those involved with our end-of-year Prize-Givings for…
This year our schools participated in the Auckland Regionals of The Big Sing, a national choral competition run by the NZ Choral Federation. Both groups performed on Tuesday 18 June in the opening day of the competition.
First up in the morning session was WSCW Puoro Musical Theatre Ensemble who performed two songs from musicals in the non-competitive category, conducted by Carmel McGill Wright. Then in the afternoon session Ngā Puna o Waiōrea performed a full competitive set of three waiata, conducted by alumni Mere Arihi Pipi-Takoko.
Ngā Puna o Waiōrea’s stunning performance of E Rangi E (Tuhoe Tamaiparea and Atakura Hunia, arranged by Pere Wihongi and Te Taepa Kameta) won Te Tohu Manu Waiata award for the best performance of a work using Māori text across the entire three days of competition in Auckland.
This is just the beginning of our Big Sing journey and we look forward to next year!
