Te Matatini Success

Congratulations to all the performers from Ngā Puna o Waiōrea who took part in Te Matatini! We had several performers in different roopu:
Piripoho Barrett-Alesana – Te Kuru Marutea
Our ākonga who performed were:
  • Rawinia Morehu and Kaiaia Hawke in Hatea
  • Shelby Te Ua in Te Waka Huia
  • Piripoho Barrett-Alesana and Te Wairua Taia in Te Kuru Marutea
Two of our Kaiako were also performing.
  • Matua Tom Alesana, Kaitataki Tane o Te Kuru Marutea 
  • Whaea Viniece McIntyre, Angitu

 

We are very proud that our performers received several awards:

  • Angitu: 1st equal Kairangi O Te Mita o Te Reo Māori – Te Reo Excellence Trophy
  • Angitu & Te Waka Huia: 1st equal Waiata ā ringa
  • Angitu & Te Waka Huia: 1st equal Whakawātea Te Taonga Whakamaumahara ki a Te Amorangi Wi Te Tau Huata rāua ko Ringahora Huata
A new award, the People’s Choice award was won by Te Kuru Marutea: Kohine Ponika ‘Aku Mahi’ Memorial Trophy – Matua Tom Alesana Kaitataki Tane of the roopu is seen holding the award in the feature image of this post.
