Sky City are proud to introduce a brand-new Gateway initiative for senior students who are interested in a career as a chef, who are “work ready” with the possibility of gaining an apprenticeship with Sky City Auckland, and a chance to earn 18 credits at Level 3 at Sky City, a 5-star Hotel in Auckland, in the kitchens.

CRITERIA

 Students must be year 13

 Preferably taken or currently studying food technology/ Hospitality.

 Students must have a genuine passion and drive for the industry, with a clear interest in pursuing a career as a chef, looking to leave school at the end of the year and either go in to FT work or study, with a genuine interest in food and becoming a chef.

 Students must be articulate, confident, and well presented.

 Students must have a good personality, good attendance, honest and reliable.

 Students must be physically fit free from injury.

 Students must not have any criminal convictions.

HOW IT WORKS

Students will complete 10 days Monday- Friday both weeks of the school holidays, attending from 7.00am2.30pm each day. Students will be working in production kitchens- Hot Prep and Cold Larder, and Fortuna restaurant. Working in Larder, students will be assisting the chef team with food production making sandwiches, salads, dressings. If they show they are keen they could assist with canapés from preparation to execution. In Hot Prep Kitchen, students will be doing vegetable preparation, weighing recipes, assisting the senior chefs making soups and sauces.

Students who make a positive impression and are proactive, hardworking and prove they have the drive and ability to succeed in this industry may be considered for the Apprenticeship Programme.
