In late August, Year 11 Business Studies classes were treated to Laura Fisher coming to school to explain how Shannon Kelly (her business partner) and herself successfully launched their new product Allmite Gold yeast spread under their Mitey Co Ltd brand. Allmite Gold, a tahini-based yeast spread, has gone on to win NZ Food awards and is now stocked by large retailers like Countdown. She explained to the students it wasn’t all plain sailing and there were ups and downs.
She gave them a first hand picture – covering many topics ranging from ownership structure, sources of financing, legal aspects and possible effects of natural events. This gave the students a good understanding of challenging situations a real business faces as it starts and grows. Students also particularly enjoyed sampling Allmite Gold as some had not tried it before!
