The musical chaos continued in Te Whare Puoro (The Music Department) throughout June and we are loving it!

Smokefreerockquest Auckland Central Regional Finals 2024

Our five incredible bands rocked the house at the Rockquest regional finals on Saturday 18th June at Auckland Girls Grammar. It was an incredible night and our musicians made us so proud (and made me mosh). And I am happy to report we cleaned up!!!!

1st PlaceIn Shade – Y13 – Yuga Yamasaki (and friends from other schools).
2nd PlaceBUZZ – Y12 – Felix Miller-Cooper, Holly Naish, Harlo Brady, Harper Sergeant.
3rd PlaceGroopChat – Y12 – Huia Cameron, Aiyana Wanakore, Teina Pecotic.

They all received Rockshop vouchers and the top two bands have the chance to be selected for the National Finals in Term 3.

Play It Strange Success

One of our talented Year 11 Music students, Atawhai Te Maapi Pene, is a finalist in the Play It Strange National Year 9-11 Songwriting Competition with her brilliant song “Karma’s Got The Gun”. It was judged by Mike Chunn and Marlon Williams and she will now get the opportunity to go to a professional studio to record her song, which will be released on the Play It Strange playlist. Ka rawe Atawhai!

NCEA Performance Evening

June also saw the return of NCEA performance evenings. We have done a bit of redecorating in our performance space and an amazing group of Year 12 and 13s dazzled us with their talents in solo and ensemble performances. We had a great audience of friends, whānau and supportive teachers. We look forward to more performance evenings later this year!
