We are seeking a highly organised and aroha-fuelled individual to fill the role of Sports Coordinator at Ngā Puna o Waiōrea (NPoW or Waiōrea) – a role specific to Waiōrea and kaupapa Māori delivery.

Sport and Sport & Recreation programmes within kura Māori are critical to supporting the all-round development of Māori students both from a participation and competition perspective.

This position plays a crucial role in the coordination of our sports operations at NPoW. The Sports Coordinator will support the long term vision for NPoW’s delivery of sport and recreation programmes and alignment to hauora Māori.

The Sports Coordinator will report to the Tumuaki and closely collaborate with the WSCW Director of Sport.

Some key responsibilities of the role include:

  • To provide Waiōrea with an organised programme of sporting opportunities to complement in-class learning and other co-curricular experiences;
  • Review current practice and participation, and develop an action plan for Waiōrea sports participation, competition and future opportunities;
  • Liaise with Sports Teams to gain an appreciation of current and future needs;
  • Ensure the calendar reflects all Waiōrea sports-related kaupapa;
  • Manage and organise coaches and managers for Waiōrea teams;
  • Implement policy/processes relevant to a school context and best practice, such as:
    * Behaviour management
    * EOTC
    * Transport
    * Budgets
    * Communication
  • This position will require a full Driver’s License.

Duration and Remuneration

This role is a permanent position and the successful applicant will be expected to work 37.5 hours per week, across 52 weeks per year.

Remuneration will align with the applicant’s qualifications, experience and specialist skills. The appointee will be paid at the appropriate step of the Support Staff in Secondary Schools Collective Agreement – SSSCA) or link here.
