WSCW Attendance update – August 2026

We are thrilled with the positive changes in the attendance rates in comparison from Term 2, 2025 to Term 2, 2026. This shows that the enormous effort going into attendance is paying off.

Anecdotally, Term 3 has seen a lot of illness and on average we have had 200 students away per day sick across the campus. Of note is that those who are sick seem to be quite sick and away for longer periods of time than normal.

Of overall concern is the single period attendance drop off after the School Ball specifically for Year 13 students who are starting to make decisions around what they perceive they need to prioritise for the rest of the year. This is a risky strategy for achievement. The Academic Directors and Heads of House are working closely with students, kaiako and whānau to have comprehensive and individual plans in place for attendance and academic achievement for the remainder of the school year.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE

• Our Associate Principal and our WSC and NPoW Attendance Officers are checking student attendance every period and at the end of each school day. It is important for caregivers & whānau to advise the school offices if your child is going to be absent or late (please advise of the reason also).
• With only 7 weeks left of classes for the 2026 school year, it is important that students attend school as much as possible in order to prepare for the end-of-year examinations.
