Term three ended with a creative bang! Throughout this week WSCW ākonga could experience and participate in pop up Arts events hosted by the Arts Leaders, senior ākonga and the Arts Coordinator.
This week-long ākonga focused initiative started with an awesome performance by the WSCW Jazz band on the deck on Whare Puoro, followed by some awesome Drama games in studio 3.
Day two had everyone moving and grooving with a pop up dance event in studio 2.
Day three learners were involved in a collaborative Visual Arts opportunity, exquisite corpse.
The grand finale of Arts week was a welcome back to the much loved Talent Quest. This year we had eight very talented and brave entries. All entries deserve a massive round of applause for their bravery, creativity and talent. Huge congratulations to Leonor Kerr, Trelise Black, Jeremiah Vatu, Taaniko lyon-Elzen, Angel Mendoza, Steffen Elim, Lafo Asiata Lemoto, Zephyr Bird, Dan Suciu, Maxine Allen, Kway Hardy, Destiny Espeno and Rohan Sidwell.
Talent Quest awards – 2023
Bravery Award went to: Leonor Kerr Leonor bravely opened talent quest sing The End of the world – Billie Eilish and played the piano.
Creativity Award went to: Steffen Elim Stefan wowed us with his skills on Geometry Dash.
Third place went to: Jeremiah Vatu, Taaniko Lyon-Elzen, Angel Mendoza. This groovy trio carved strong and slick moves in their Hip Hop.
Second place went to: Zephyr Bird Zephyr surprised us all with an awesome rendition of twinkle twinkle little star.
First place went to: Maxine Allen, Kway Hardy, Destiny Espeno, Rohan Sidwell. This band rocked their way to first place playing Bullet with Butterfly Wings by smashing pumpkins. These lucky prize winners walked away with some newly designed Arts Merchandise featuring an awesome design to celebrate the arts a WSCW by Dawa Yeshe. Thank you Ms Teleiai for supporting Dawa in this process.
Thank you to all of the senior Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts students that stepped up to lead an event during Arts Week. Thank you to everyone who stepped into new spaces and participated in this creative goodness! Thank you to the Arts Leaders Oscar Lyons, Isabella Benson, Oliver Burton and Ruby Rudson for your ideas and leadership.
