On Wednesday in the library we hosted a Careers Seminar for senior students wanting to look into the world of Engineering, Construction and Trades associated with our own development – the rebuild and development of Western Springs College, Nga Puna o Waiorea.
We were fortunate to have our very own ex student Chris Lines who is a graduate Engineer and Relationship Manager from Downers who did a cadetship with Downers and is now one of the Downers team working on the development. We also had a visit from Lisa Stafford the Talent Development Manager from Downers who was available to answer questions from the students. Students also got to meet some of the graduate engineers who attended.
Following a career focused talk from Chris who explored the endless possibilities of careers in Engineering and the trades we went on a tour with 30 students through the New Main Teaching Block to see firsthand the works and the hype of activity within the build site. In following Downers philosophy of Safety First and Zero Harm all the students did their safety induction and had their personal protective equipment on. It was a great insight into the new school under construction.
